Sprint Introduces Wireless Backup

If you own a phone or have a friend who owns one, you would have come across a situation where you have received an e-mail message saying, “Lost my cell phone – Please send me your contact information.” To save yourself from friends who loose their cell phones. Sprint has launched Sprint Wireless backup, a service which synchronizes the contact list on a phone with a copy on Sprint's servers. This software comes equipped on Sprint phones and it automatically uploads changes made on the handset, and if the original phone is lost or stolen, a new phone can automatically download this data.

Sprint is testing this service and has made available two new Sprint phones - the Samsung A580 (Shown below), and the LG LX350 — for $2 a month. Sprint customers can also log onto a web site to make additional changes to their list that are then sent to their cell phone.

This service cannot exchange data with various online calendar books like those provided by Yahoo and Google or with desktop e-mail clients like Microsoft Outlook, and Lotus Notes.
