Microsoft releases beta of Windows CE 6.0

Windows CE is the core operating system behind Windows Mobile and is also used in other enterprise and consumer devices such as GPS systems, medical devices, and industrial automation devices.

This week, the Mobile and Embedded DevCon (MEDC) is taking place in Vegas for developers, and Microsoft announced the beta release of Windows CE 6.0. This is the 10-year anniversary of Windows CE, and this latest version is now available as a plug-in for Visual Studio 2005.

One major improvement in the latest OS is the increase in the ability to run simultaneous processes from 32 to 32,000. I remember bumping into this limit with my PDA2K Phone Edition, since it started up with so many processes.
