Verizon Wireless Announces Wireless Priority Service

Verizon today began rolling out Wireless Priority Service for first responders. During large-scale emergencies, Verizon will give priority to calls placed by or to first responders over other subscribers. Non-WPS subscribers who are currently on a call when the system is activated will not be cut off, they will just have to wait in line behind approved first responders for an open circuit to place calls. Subscribers in law enforcement, emergency services and other first responder services in LA, south Florida, Washington DC and Chicago can sign up for the service today. It will be available nationwide by the end of the year. Cingular and T-Mobile already offer WPS nationwide.
