Skype to distribute ringtones for use with service

Skype has announced new licensing agreements with three major music publishing companies that will allow it to distribute ringtones from Warner Music Group (WMG) artists. The music publishing groups are EMI Music Publishing, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, and Warner/Chappell Music.

The agreements mean Skype users from a number of countries can download ringtones. Those countries include Belgium, France, Ireland, The Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. Availability to other users worldwide will soon follow within a few weeks. The ringtones will be available through the Skype's "Personalise Skype" store.

Skype is beginning to offer products like ringtones, which are more commonly offered by wireless companies. Of course, now that Skype is available for download to some PDAs, I suppose it is becoming more like a wireless company. Whether on a PDA or computer it's a great idea to sell personalization products to customers. Ringtones are a good start.
