New study shows video games can be a workout

A new University of Miami study shows video games can actually help people burn calories.

Posted to the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and conducted by Dr. Arlette Perry, 21 young boys between the ages of 7 and 10 were asked to play the fighting game, Tekken 3 against one another.

The study found that the kids who played the game had increased blood pressure and elevated heart rates similar to the exertion of walking quickly. Now, before you go selling your treadmill, the study also showed little effect on blood glucose or lactase levels, so playing an intense game is little better than watching television.

However, if you are looking to feel more of a burn during your video game play at home, may I suggest picking up a dance pad and playing a game with a lot of physical activity such as Dance Dance Revolution.
